General questions
- Someone recommended that I use General Edit Lite to
fix a problem, but I can't make it work. Can you help me?
Unfortunately, General Edit Lite is intended for use
only by programmers, engineers, and other expert users.
It should not have been recommended for use by the
general public with third-party software or hardware.
Because it is a free product, technical support is not
available for General Edit Lite.
- Will there be a version of General Edit for Linux or
Windows?
Others versions are under consideration. If you want
to use General Edit on other platforms, please let us
know: send mail to the address given
here.
- I haven't bought General Edit yet, and like to know
more about what it can do. Where can I find the answers?
If you still have questions, send mail to the address
given
here.
- What does "Quadrivio" mean?
It is an Italian word that means crossroads - a place
where four roads meet.
Technical questions
- General Edit isn't behaving the way I expected, or
maybe there's a bug in the program. What should I do?
Check here first, to see if more explanation or a
work-around is available. If there's nothing here that
helps, please tell us about it! Send mail to the address
given
here.
It's most helpful if you can describe the exact sequence
of steps to recreate the problem, including any structure
definition that is involved.
- How can I use General Edit to compare the contents of
two files?
General Edit has an Export Report command. You can use
the text file produced by this command as input to any
tool that does comparison of text files, such as the cmp
shell command. Open the two files you want to compare and
output reports, and then compare the text of the two
report files.
Problem reports
- General Edit Pro doesn't work with my Intel-based
Mac.
Try the latest version, 2.0.2.
- Characters appear squeezed together when I switched
to OS X 10.4
Open the Preferences dialog and check the box labelled
"Adjust Letter Spacing," then re-launch General Edit.
- The file you selected cannot be updated
This error message may appear if you attempt to use
the General Edit 2.0.2 updater on the wrong version of
General Edit. The updater can only work on one of the
full commercial releases of version 2.x: 2.0, 2.0v2, or
2.0.1.
- Comments do not behave as expected.
If you write:
if (x == 1)
// comment here
Int8 y;
General Edit will not handle this correctly according
to what you would expect from C: it treats the comment
line as the statement that is controlled by the "if"
statement and always includes "Int8 y" no matter what the
value of x is.
- In the structure pane, some of the open disclosure
triangles have the shadow of a closed triangle behind
them.
A feature. This indicates that some of the
corresponding corresponding triangles in the data pane
are open and some are closed.
